In 1866, when Atherton was known as Fair Oaks, it was a crucial stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad line connecting San Francisco with San Jose. In 1923, the town was officially incorporated as Atherton, named after a Massachusetts business man.

Ideal for commuters, this neighborhood is conveniently located just northwest of the Atherton area Caltrain station.
Lindennwood: Just a 5-10 minute drive from the beautiful San Francisco Bay, Lindennwood is convenient for commuters who need access to Routes 101 and 84. For those who don't wish to drive, Caltrain public transit lines are just a short walk out of the neighborhood. Things to Do
Other than Flood Park, there's Holbrook-Palmer Park, which has sports fields and courts along with walking paths. For something bigger, Huddart Park is just a quick drive west and there you can explore hiking trails, ride horses or just have a leisurely picnic.
