East La Mirada, now known as East Whittier since a name change in 2012, is a pleasant census-designated place whose school district can lay claim to teaching a 9-year-old Richard Nixon.
Though the name may have changed in 2012, East La Mirada as a whole hasn't seen much change; and most residents look at that as a good thing. The crime rate in the area is much lower than both California's and the national average, so the population growth of only about 200 people between 2000 and 2010 was quite acceptable by locals. After all, why would you want too many new people moving into an area when it's just fine the way it is? Except for you. You can move in.
Moving to East La Mirada
Anyone looking into moving to the East Whittier, or East La Mirada, whichever you prefer, area should be prepared to put a little elbow grease into getting there. The census says that the entire area is land with a zero percentage of water area, but a quick look at Google Earth shows that combining the massive amount of pools in many backyards would be enough to make your own lake. That's just one sign of how awesome this place is, and once you manage to swing one of these premier apartments in East La Mirada, you'll recognize just how much the hard work was worth it.
When to Start Looking
Depends on when you're moving. If you're intended move out date is in a month, then you probably should've started looking one or two months ago. No joke. This census-designated place is definitely made for tenants to enjoy, with more than one out of every three residents being a renter, but that doesn't mean that finding a place will be easy. East La Mirada is a condensed area with no room for growth. There's literally 9,000 people per every square mile in the area, and you can bet that this isn't going to change anytime soon. Moral of the story? Get the lead out and start looking now! Places as great as this don't just magically appear at your doorstep, and if they do, please, give me a call.
When to Make the Move
Weather is usually a huge factor when deciding when to move to an area. When it comes to rental housing as in demand as that in East La Mirada, though, this kind of has to go out the window. If you weren't paying attention during class earlier, it's hard to find a place here. Fortunately, the weather isn't all that detrimental. Average high temperatures barely break 90 degrees during the hottest month of the year, and if you can avoid working during midday, you should be able to get everything into your new rental apt without losing 30 pounds of body mass in sweat. Unless that's the kind of thing you're into, and then by all means, start taking in boxes at high noon.
What to Bring Along
Absolutely everything. If you can think of a single thing that's going to make a landlord more inclined to say "Yeah, you can have the place," bring it. Get your mother to bake cookies if you can. Bribe the landlord! Only with cookies, though; it may look suspicious if you start throwing around unmarked C-notes. That means hundred-dollar bills, for those of you who aren't hip. Having positive references from former landlords in hand is always good. Proof of income is essential, and a credit check can go a long way as well. Heck, the area is really low in crime, so even bringing along a background check will help. If they ask why you brought that, just say that you like living in a low-crime area, and that you were sure they appreciated that too. Brownie points to the max!
East La Mirada Neighborhoods
If you're looking for the nicest neighborhood in East La Mirada, you're going to be looking for a while. Not because there aren't many to go around, but mostly because it's really hard to decide which of these awesome areas should be considered 'the best.' With a mass of residential areas, easy commutes, and even bike trails, you're going to be hard-pressed to select where you want to call home. Heck, you could probably bypass an apartment to rent altogether and live in your car in some of these areas and still be better off than individuals in other cities.
Northwest Area: Like all areas in East La Mirada, the area is highly residential. Weeks Drive, for instance, has over 20 homes on it; and it's only a cul-de-sac that would take less than a minute to walk down! The area is also great for public transit since buses run up and down Leffingwell Road.
Northeast Area: Saying this place is highly residential is redundant at this point, but you'll also have some shops you can enjoy. The triangle formed where 1st Avenue, Leffingwell Road, and Lambert Road meet has restaurants and discount stores. With what you'll be paying for rent here, that discount store could very well come in handy!
Eastern... East La Mirada: Yes. The east part of East La Mirada. Get over it. The Integrated Science Program of Los Angeles is located here, so you can go learn the physics of eastern parts of eastern areas if you really want. If you're more into getting physical, go enjoy some cycling on the Coyote Creek Bikeway.
Apartments in East La Mirada
Glenwood Apartment Homes: As you can tell by the name, they're much more homey than your typical apartment rental. After all, it's the Internet. They couldn't call it that if it wasn't true! And if you ever pry yourself from the computer, La Mirada Creek Park is nearby as well.
Living in East La Mirada
Whether you find a large home or a small place in one of East La Mirada's apartment complexes, you'll quickly realize that there are plenty of benefits to go along with staying in the area. No, it's not highly commercial, but if you're paying this type of money to live somewhere, you don't want 24-hour traffic from a nearby McDonald's anyway. Why don't you just calm down and enjoy the little place for what it is. Picky, picky.
Get Your Golf On
You could probably hit the Westridge Golf Club from your home if your backswing is good enough. We'd recommend against this, though; it's probably best to only golf _at _the club. You couldn't hit a ball 10 feet in any direction without hitting a neighbor anyway.
Access to the City of Angels
You're literally only a 30 minute drive, or less, to Los Angeles. That's right. You can live near Los Angeles and still have an incredibly low crime rate in your area. Who would've thought?
Surrounded by Access
East La Mirada is smack dab in the middle of Interstates 5 and 605, and Highways 60, 57, and 91 are also around. With these thruways, you can get pretty much anywhere in California. The state does take up most of the west coast, though, so you might be driving for a while.
