It's not quite as convenient to the Golden State Highway, which is the main thoroughfare running through town, so you can get a good deal here if your budget is on the tight side. This is where the Winton County Park is located, and you can also hit up the Winton Way Market easily. The Walkscore for this area of town is only a 25, though, so your lower rent might be offset by the need for a car and the gasoline that you use to get around.

Winton Way: The middle section of Winton is around Winton Way. Rental prices are a little higher, but it will pay off in convenience. Here, the Walkscore is 45, so while you will still be better off with a car, you can get around without one if you need to run some errands while yours is in the shop. Here, you'll find the typical fast food joints, like Burger King and Subway, along with a few pizza restaurants. You'll definitely want to check out Sunshine Donuts & Ice Cream; that sounds like a win-win combination of good eats! Burn off some calories by checking out the boutiques closer to the highway, such as Fashion T, Princess Hair Bowtique or A Moment in Time Bridal.

Steinberg Road: The section furthest south in Winton is centered around Steinberg Road. Here, the rental prices will be similar to that around Winton Way, but you won't gain much by way of convenience, other than being closer to the highway. The Walkscore for this neighborhood is zero; a set of wheels is definitely necessary.

Living in Winton

Winton is situated in north-central Merced County and though the town itself is mostly residential with a nice handful of businesses and attractions thrown in, you'll probably leave your immediate community fairly often for work and play. You'll need to drive, because Winton does not have a public transportation system. Before you leave town, though, you'll want to peruse the Castle Air Museum, which has a pretty cool collection of historic aircraft.

There are two movie theaters in the nearby city of Merced, so you aren't far from seeing the latest blockbuster. Parks in the county include Lake Yosemite, Applegate Park and Henderson Park. At any of these, you can enjoy a variety of outdoorsy activities. If you want to walk on the wild side, try stopping by the Applegate Zoo or the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. If you head into Merced, you will find lots of great restaurants and even some nightlife options, including an "art hop," live theater and various musical performances.
