Shut your largemouth: Clewiston was originally set up as a town when a couple of men from Philadelphia and Tampa, John O'Brien and Alonzo Clewis, bought up the land and developed a town to connect to the Atlantic coastline. Over time, the city became known in the area as a great place for sport fishing, with the appropriately named largemouth bass becoming the main fish on the menu.

The city of Clewiston is situated along the coast of Lake Okeechobee, not too far from the popular and built up Atlantic coastline. From the 2010 census, the population stands at 7,155, and the city itself covers a little under five square miles of land. The city also has a low degree of traffic, making commuting to work a breeze and helping to keep pollution down. While some will commute to the coastline to work, most work locally.
Moving to Clewiston
Clewiston has a high vacancy rate of over 18%, so finding rental houses shouldn't be difficult. If you're looking for studio apartments to rent, however, you probably won't be in luck, and will have to upgrade to a one-bedroom place. There are plenty of these, and two-bedroom apartments as well, so you won't be lacking in options. Prices are low for the state, but that's largely because you're not going to work those high-paying jobs you'd find in a major city like Miami over on the coast. You can commute if you wish, but be prepared for a long drive through the Everglades. Although, if you're going to take a long drive, there are worse places to travel through!
Neighborhoods in Clewiston
Clewiston has three neighborhoods that stretch back off the coast of the lake and onto the Florida plains. Take a look around before you decide where to move to, although you're most likely going to end up in the town itself.
City Center: Through the center of town, you'll find the historic Clewiston Inn and Clewiston Museum adding some culture and history to the place. Of course, there's a chain of fast food restaurants literally next door, with McDonald's, Burger King and a Subway along the main street. Modern American wouldn't have it any other way! Good if you're looking for an apt for rent in Clewiston.
Harlem: Outside of the city center, you'll find a place dominated by single family homes and mobile homes. If you're looking for a home for rent that isn't caught in the middle of town, this might work for you. There's an M&M supermarket here and a beauty salon for anyone wanting a touch up.
Whidden Corner: Again, lots of mobile homes out here, with only a handful of houses stretching way off from the main city center. Take a look at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum in the south.
Living in Clewiston
The locals love their fishing and getting out on the lake, so if you enjoy the great outdoors, this might be the town for you. There are some great sites of interest to explore, such as the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, Clewiston Inn and Clewiston Museum, as well as plenty to see and do only a short drive away, with the Everglades right there on the doorstep and the Atlantic coastline beyond.
