In the city of Calhoun, history is an important part of the community. Located at the Downtown Calhoun are a couple of points of interest such as the Roland Hayes Museum at the Harris Arts Center and the Gordon County Historical Society which contains one of the largest private doll collections in Georgia and houses some items from the Civil War. Also, while in Calhoun you must take advantage of the following state Historic sites: New Echota, the capital of the Cherokee nation established in 1825 and the Resaca Battlefield, the site on an important battle during the Civil War.
