Investors from the mainland, poured money into the sugar industry and propelled Lihue towards being the most prosperous city in Hawaii. Currently, Lihue is a popular tourist destination; however, it continues to be an economic conglomerate in the region. As of 2010, Lihue was the second largest town on the Hawaiian Island of Kaua'i with a population of 6.455.

Town Center: Many of the homes on the water are either premier apartments with gorgeous waterfront views or property rentals including condominiums and townhomes. Eat at Hamura Saimin once you're all unpacked.
Puhi: The main residential community of Lihue, Puhi features a surplus of single family homes built between 1950 and 1980. Although new construction is not as common, beachfront homes are being built at a fast rate in this neighborhood. If an apartment rental is too small, look in Puhi for rental housing.
Living in Lihue
It is hard to imagine that it could get any better than waking up to the sound of the waves crashing into the beach. Because Lihue is served by the Island's largest airport, it is a busy community with many activities for people of all ages. Visit Wailua Falls for gorgeous scenery and a refreshing dip in the water. Of course, Lihue is home a number of stunning beaches including Kalapaki Beach where you can surf, swim and relax without the tourist crowds.
