Hickory Hills is the kind of town where you can expect to say more than a cursory "howdy" to your neighbors. In fact, there always seems to be some kind of community activity happening in the city. There's some beautiful countryside in and around Hickory Hills, so you might be surprised that it's just half an hour away from downtown Chicago.

Renting in Hickory Hills

It shouldn't take you too long to find a home for rent in Hickory Hills, as there are always a fairly decent amount of rental properties on the market. That said, it's a good idea to leave at least four weeks to find rental apartments or houses in the city, so you don't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel and end up bunking with more rodents than you're altogether comfortable with. However, it can take a little longer if you have specific needs, such as a pet-friendly property or a home rented on a month-to-month basis. Be prepared to flash the right documentation before you'll be allowed to move into your new home. You'll usually need to show your realtor some photo ID, rental history, credit scores and proof of income.

Hickory Hills Neighborhoods

As a fairly small town, there's not a huge amount of distance between neighborhoods, but they're different enough that they can sure seem far apart.

Town Center: Living in this neighborhood will put you close to all the town's main conveniences, such as shops and restaurants. Properties are generally small or medium sizes. It's a good place to find apartments or townhouses for rent in Hickory Hills.

Cork: Properties in this neighborhood tend to be on the bigger side and set on larger plots. JJ FISH & CHICKEN is in this neighborhood.

South Kean: There's a good mixture of houses and apartments in this neighborhood. Many of the properties are well established, having been built between the 1940s and the 1970s.

Life in Hickory Hills

There's some stunning outdoor space in Hickory Hills, but if you want to enjoy it all year 'round, you'll have to be willing to embrace some cold weather, as temperatures plummet here in the winter. If you like some snowy fun, you'll find a designated sledding hill at Kasey Meadow Park, which can provide hours of entertainment.

There are some more excellent recreational facilities across the city parks, such as the skate park again at Kasey Meadow the fitness center at Kruger Park Recreation Center and the softball fields at Martin Park. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with community events, whether you simply want to attend or you'd like to help organize them. These town events range from Easter egg hunts and pizza tasting evenings to the annual Hickory Hills street fair.

You can eat out in a range of places in Hickory Hills, such as Ciao Ristorante for Italian food or Las Fuentes for some Mexican cuisine. There's not a huge amount of public transport options in the area, so most residents find it easier to drive, but there are some bus services available.
