Having grown from being a small farming area, there's a good sense of community in Griffith and you can find a number of town events going on throughout the year.
Renting in Griffith
Renting in Griffith is much like renting anywhere else. If you want to move into a rental property, you'll need to provide your new landlord with proof of income, rental history, credit history and ID to show you are who you say you are. All pretty standard. The cost of moving in will depend on the kind of property you want (obviously it's going to be far less expensive to move into a one-bedroom apartment than a five-bedroom house), but be prepared to fork out one month's rent plus a security deposit. If you want to find your perfect home, it's best to allow four to six weeks to find rental houses.
Griffith Neighborhoods
Since Griffith is a fairly old town, incorporated in 1904, you'll find a significant difference between older and newer neighborhoods. Where you choose to take a rental property in Griffith will probably depend on how close you want to be to the town's amenities.
Town Center: As you can probably guess, the Town Center neighborhood is the place to be if you'd like your place to be conveniently located near shops and restaurants. You'll mostly find apartment rentals and smaller houses in this area, and many of the properties are on the older side.
Glen Park: Although a little further out from the center, this neighborhood is fairly walkable. Central Park and Cheever Park are both located within the area, great for taking a stroll through.
West Ridge: The majority of the properties in this neighborhood are modern or at least built after 1970. There's a good mixture of small and medium-sized houses and apartments in the area.
Living in Griffith
You'll find some gorgeous parkland dotted all throughout the town of Griffith, including Woodland Park and the town's largest offering, Central Park. A range of community events take place through the year, such as the annual Park Full of Art festival. You might find much of the town out and about on a Friday evening during the summer, when the Griffith Central Market is in full swing. Being close to Chicago, you're certainly able to get a good slice in Griffith. It's a tossup between whether Romano's Restaurant or John's Pizzeria Restaurant serves the best pie in town.
