Fort Mitchell, KY is a 4th-class city in Kenton County, Kentucky and covers a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.0 km2), with a census-counted population of 8,207. The site was an extremely important Union Army fortification during the Civil War, being one of twenty-three forts built to protect Cincinnati from the Confederate armies. Cincinnati was in a prominent position as a river harbor and with their meat packing and manufacturing factories, was a worthy prize for enemy invasions. Today Fort Mitchell is a quiet place to live and work and the people have a genuine love for the 'town'. There is a sense of community and pride in this beautiful town and this shows in the Wall of Honor, built to honor those who have worked for the City as either an employee, volunteer or elected official.
