For this reason, it might make sense to time your relocation for the later fall or early spring, before things heat up. If you can't avoid moving in the summer, consider hiring movers... or at least plan on rewarding yourself with something cold and frosty, preferably somewhere with air conditioning!
Waggaman is itself considered a neighborhood, so there aren't actually designated neighborhoods within this small place. Because it does span about six square miles, though, where in town you choose to live will make a difference when it comes to your commuting time as well as the time you may need to spend doing errands.
North Waggaman: The northern part of Waggaman is nestled right up against the Avondale Bend section of the Mississippi River. It's also right near the aptly named River Road, which runs along the River and will bring you to Interstate 90. You'll be close to Kark Park and a Subway, but in general, you will find that most errands are at least a mile or two away, making this section of town not so walkable.
South Waggaman: This section of town is closer to the Interstate. While you may get some traffic noise here, you'll be gaining easier access to the town amenities; most of the shopping and dining options are in the southern section of town. Although the Walk Score for this area of town is a modest 34, it's likely that you'll be able to use your own foot power to at least pick up some groceries at Winn-Dixie or Brother's Food Mart, or grab a quick lunch at Chicken on the Run or Wendy's.
Waggaman may be a smallish town, but there are plenty of places to see and go without straying too far from home. All of the typical fast food restaurants are located close to the Interstate, and whether you're from the South or just moving here, you'll want to kick back at the local Waffle House. For quick shopping trips, you can hit the Family Dollar or Quik Stop. There are also a few boutiques in the area, including Mr. Binky's Boutique and Pretty Girl Boutique. For your general errands, you'll find a good selection of banks and pharmacies, too.
When you live in the Bayou State close to the Mississippi, one of the main draws of the area is the water. Whether you're fixing to go fishing or just catch a glimpse of some gators, you're in the right spot. If you're new to the area, you'll want to check out Ultimate Swamp Adventure or Cajun Critters Swamp Tour. Even if you were born and bred in the bayou, swamp tours can make for a nice afternoon of relaxing in the wilderness -- in between avoiding large reptiles, of course.
All in all, if you are looking for a peaceful slice of Louisiana paradise, Waggaman may be just the place for you to put down some roots.
