Overview of Findings

Apartment List has released Hyattsville’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.

"Hyattsville renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "Some categories received above average scores, and many received below average scores."

Key findings in Hyattsville include the following:

  • Hyattsville renters gave their city a D overall.
  • The highest-rated categories for Hyattsville were public transit and commute time, which received A+ and A- grades, respectively.
  • The areas of concern to Hyattsville renters are jobs and career opportunities, quality of local schools and recreational activities, which all received D grades.
  • Hyattsville did relatively poorly compared to other cities in Maryland, including Silver Spring (A), Rockville (A+) and Baltimore (C).
  • Hyattsville did relatively poorly compared to other cities nationwide, including Miami, FL (C+), Los Angeles, CA (C+) and New York, NY (C+).
  • The top rated cities nationwide for renter satisfaction include Scottsdale, AZ, Irvine, CA, Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI. The lowest rated cities include Tallahassee, FL, Stockton, CA, Dayton, OH, Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ.

Hyattsville is a city in Prince George’s County, Maryland with a population of 17,557.
