La Plata is a short drive from Ronald Reagan National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. There are Amtrak stations at Union Station in Washington, DC, and at Alexandria, Virginia. La Plata's town hall was the first LEED certified "green" building in Southern Maryland.
