Old Town, in Penobscot County, is actually several islands in the Penobscot River with a total area of about 43 square miles. Thirty-nine square miles are land, and four square miles are water and bridges connect the separated parts of town.

There are famous people from Old Town. Patty Griffin is an American Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and musician known for her folk music. She was the recipient of the Americana Music Association's Artist of the Year Award, and "Children Running Through" won Best Album. Her songs have been covered by a host of musicians, including Emmylou Harris, Ellis Paul, Rory Block and Dixie Chicks.
Tabitha Jane King, wife of author Stephen King, is also from Old Town. She's an American author and activist in her own right. She attended the University of Maine where she met her future husband. She wrote many novels, including "Survivor" and "Burning Candles." Perhaps you'll find a hint of Old Town in her writings or her husband's infamous suspense novels.

More than 50 miles of rivers and streams, which are famous for smallmouth bass, lure anglers year-round. With a population of only 7,840, there's plenty of room to roam and relax.
