Previously known as River Aux Echorches (River of the Barks), Ecorse has undergone phenomenal transformation to become a lively metropolis. At its beginnings, the city was used as a burial ground.
Covering an area of 3.69 square miles (9.56 square kilometers), the small town has a population of 9,512. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1902, and eventually into a city in 1942.
