Moving to Haslett
If you’re thinking about moving here, pay the town a visit first to see what it’s all about. It’s great for young parents and retirees, but unless you have something drawing you to the area, young single folks might find it a bit sleepy. Still, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself and lots of great apartments for rent in the area. Thinking about having a few kids someday? Why not splurge on a 3 bedroom apartment seeing as the rent here is so cheap? Many apartment complexes also offer all utilities paid apartments so that’s another added bonus. When you’re visiting, check out the country club and the local schools – they are both a big draw to the area.
Neighborhoods in Haslett
Lake Lansing area: On the town's north side, renters and owners coexist with plenty of real estate to go around. The vacancy rate hovers around eight percent, so give yourself at least a few weeks to score a place here, especially if you're looking for the more-elusive (in this nabe at least) large single-family homes. $$
SW Haslett: There aren't really any major roads or highways that lead in or out of this area, so make sure you like spending time in your car before relocating here. Rents are a little more expensive here, but you'll be rewarded by gaining extra space -- whether that's an extra bedroom or study in your apartment, or an extra-large backyard if you opt to rent a home. $$$$
SE Haslett: The original town began here, so claiming an older home with tons of character can be accomplished here, that is, if you can find a rental since most of the properties are owned. $$$
Living in Haslett
Haslett doesn’t have too much variety, but when it comes to this place, that’s a good thing! The town is steeped in quaintness and every square inch of it has the same idyllic feel to it. Whether you’re in the middle of one of the large public parks playing ball with your kids, out on the lake fishing in a canoe or hanging out at the Meridian Sun Golf Club, you’ll notice that everyone in town has an ease and a friendliness about them that’s all too rare these days. It’s certainly not the height of sophistication, so big city folks might find its nightlife and cultural offerings a bit lackluster – but if you’re coming here to raise kids and get a taste of the quiet life, you’ll absolutely love it.
