"If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan." --Jeff Foxworthy
River Rouge, Michigan, is named after the river that cuts through it -- Rouge River (although the name is inverted just to show a stroke of uniqueness). It is situated right at the mouth of the Detroit River, so the town has one of the most spectacular views in Michigan. The weather in River Rouge and the weather here is nothing short of sporadic and unpredictable. The locals often refer to River Rouge's weather pattern as 'wild' -- and it most certainly is. In the summer, one week the temperature will be in the mid-80s, then suddenly it will reach the 100s the next. The winters are the same, but surprisingly many of the residents here enjoy the unpredictable weather since it adds a whiff of excitement to the city.

Moving to River Rouge
Michigan is an ideal place to live for people of a modest, moderate, extravagant or rock-star lifestyle. There's a diverse mix of properties to suit anyone's taste, so why not give it a shot? River Rouge has that beautiful riverside view, loads of natural splendor and a hypnotic atmosphere that the locals and jealous visitors from neighboring cities have come to love (in private). If you're looking for a duplex for rent, 2 bedroom apartment rentals or even studio apartments, you've come to the right place. However, before beginning your apartment search, there are a few things you need to know:
Start Your Search by the River
The scenic views near Rouge River often make finding an apartment in this area very challenging. They are snatched up almost as quickly as they're advertised, so it's best to start your search here -- that is, if you like any of the properties near the river, which I'm sure you will.
Search by Square Footage
This may sound a bit odd, but due to the overwhelming number of properties that come on the market here in River Rouge, people often find it hard to narrow down their results. So, to make it easier, think of how much square footage you need and how many bedrooms you'd like and refine your search. Since most directories don't have a 'square footage' option, you'll have to sort by bedrooms and price, then eliminate the results that don't meet your size preference.
Carry Your Cards
By cards, we mean ID, Social Security and credit/debit. The first two are almost always needed to perform a credit check. This check is used to determine your rent worthiness. The last item is used to place a deposit on the property that you like. Most apartment complexes accept credit/debit cards as forms of payment, but will not accept third-party checks or cash.
Stay a Step Ahead
Find out what documents each apartment complex needs in order to process their application and bring them along with you. If you're catching cabs or the SMART bus, guard these documents with your life! Not because of impending danger, but because it's really easy to get sidetracked by the scenery and forget them in the cab or bus. With that being said, when you see an apartment you like, put down the deposit and hand over that big yellow envelope of documents. The quicker you get the application processed the sooner you can move into your new dream home.
Neighborhoods in River Rouge
River Rouge is 3.4 square miles in total, with the majority of it being land. However, with all of the land that River Rouge has to offer the government doesn't feel that there's a need to fill it up with a bunch of silly neighborhood names. The Rouge River is in River Rouge, so if clever wordplay was ever a requirement to name a city, well, then there's no other massive landmark to name individual neighborhoods after -- so -- fuggedaboutit. Because there aren't a lot of neighborhoods segmenting River Rouge, the whole town is your oyster -- and there are lots of cool pearls in this oyster! You see what I did there? Wordplay, owned.
What is There to Do in River Rouge?
When it comes to activities, River Rouge has too many to choose from. Here are just a few:
Get Your Grill On
That's right, due to the massive swings in temperature, the residents of River Rouge enjoy a good BBQ in the spring and summer months. The great thing about grilling here is that you don't have to have your own grill, just head out to one of the many parks in the area such as Memorial Park, Belanger Park, Tot Lot, Bryant Park and Walter White Playground.
Don't want to BBQ? That's fine. Many of these parks have so much space that you can easily get a good soccer, baseball or football game going.
Speaking of Good Grub
Okay, granted; River Rouge isn't Detroit or even Dearborn, there are still a number of good eating spots here (if you can look past the dozens of fast food joints.) The most talked about restaurants in the area are Hungry Howie's Pizza and Rover Rouge Coney Island.
Fish, Boat, Ski
The most obvious activity to do here is fishing. The entire town is surrounded by bait and tackle shops and boat rental stores. If you love water sports such as skiing or boating, or you are into fishing, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a nice sunny day at the Rouge River or Detroit River.
