City Guide for Corcoran, MN

Corcoran was originally named after Patrick B. Corcoran, an early resident from Ireland. Settled in 1855 and incorporated in 1948, Corcoran has changed over the years from rural escape to outer Twin Cities suburb.

Often confused with the Corcoran neighborhood found in Minneapolis, the city of Corcoran is, in fact, a Twin Cities suburb located just west of Maple Grove. However, the city still retains the natural beauty that has set it apart for over 150 years. Corcoran enjoys the distinction of being one of the only Twin Cities suburbs with a clear rural feel. This rural vibe is made possible, in part, by Corcoran's location on the periphery of the metro area. However, residents have also made a conscious effort to keep the country feel present in spite of constant suburban encroachment. Tractors, four wheelers and country music are all familiar features -- and locals are proud of their country status! View Corcoran City Guide

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Corcoran, MN

Finding an apartment in Corcoran that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
