Sartell was originally called “The Third Rapids” because it was the third set of rocky waters that French Fur traders would come across as they traveled up from Minneapolis.
Sartell is a city in the state of Minnesota that is divided by the Mississippi River. It has a population of 16,183 and is the most populous suburb of St. Cloud. A paper mill started in 1907 has always been the city’s major employer, but it is also home to a number of restaurants, shops and small businesses. Recently it’s seen bigger businesses come in, like Walmart and Sam’s Club, so now is the time to get in and look for an apartment!
Moving to Sartell
Like any small town, you’ll want to come visit and assess the situation for yourself before taking the plunge. There are apartments for rent here but during certain times of year they may be harder to come by than others. Avoid the end of summer and, if you can handle it, try to look in the harsh winter months – there’s always less demand when it’s snowing out! Remember to bring all the paperwork you need and to look sharp when you go on appointments – a first impression goes a long way.
Neighborhoods
Sartell has some nice neighborhoods with lots of parks, shops and places to eat.
Great River Road / 368th Street: This is the most expensive part of the town but homes here are still fairly cheap. You can find hi rise apartments and apartment complexes with units priced well below the national average. Vacancy rates are super low, however, so keep that in mind. $$
City Center: Rentals here are a little bit more than outside of the city center, but the good news is that you can actually find apts for rent here! There is a good mix of owners and renters and a much higher vacancy rate. IT’s a diverse neighborhood with lots of executives and young professionals. $$$
Route 10 / Route 15: Renting here is cheap and there are condos for rent and homes for rent as well. The vacancy rate is low but it might be worth the extra time looking to save the cash.$
Life in Sartell
Sartell is sometimes considered a suburb of St. Cloud, so people that live there usually have cars and commute for work. The St. Cloud Metro Bus also runs in the area, so if you don't have your own set of wheels, you won't be stranded. Lots of well-known people live here, including several of the Minnesota Vikings and some NHL players. It makes sense, too, because Sartells offers nice, quiet suburban living, and an excellent school system with safe neighborhoods. Also, if you need to travel a longer distance, Sartell is situated rather conveniently as well, with easy access to the St. Cloud airport, an Amtrak train station and a Greyhound Bus Station.
