Jasper County -- home of Carl Junction, Missouri -- was inhabited by the Osage Native American tribe after an 1808 treaty ceded its lands to the United States. Because the land stretched between the Missouri, Mississippi, and Arkansas rivers, the tribe called itself the "Children of the Middle Waters."
Carl Junction, population 7,445 (according to the 2010 U.S. Census) is located in the southwestern corner of the state of Missouri and is a part of the great Joplin, Missouri, area. The site of a former lead mine (and before that, a trading post), Carl Junction got its name from a German immigrant and was situated at the junction of the Joplin and Girard railways. The beauty of the surrounding area has attracted residents to this small town, which has experienced steady growth over the last 20 years. If you're looking for a small community with ample attention to quality education, a great quality of life, Earth-friendly construction practices, and newer buildings, swing by Carl Junction for a look around. You won't be disappointed.
Moving to Carl Junction
If you're serious about moving to either of these two neighborhoods, start your search early and jump on opportunities as they arise. This means giving yourself ample time to search in person and look at places before you land. To be safe, give yourself at least four -- preferably six -- weeks to properly search for apartments. Typical rental requirements include proof of income, rental history, and first and last months' rent down. Completed credit checks and security deposits are also a bonus.
Neighborhoods to Notice
Make sure to check out as much of Carl Junction as you can before moving to make sure you pick an area you love. Here are two of our favorite Carl Junction neighborhoods to consider:
Briarbrook: This neighborhood lies to the north of a golf course and country club. How's that for posh? Here, you'll find medium-to-large sized houses with green lawns and mature trees. For a little fun, notice that street names are also golfing terms. Cute. The bad news? You're going to have a hard time finding an apartment for rent. However, if you're lucky, you might find a nice house to rent for a decent price.
Briarbrook Estates: Located just southeast of the country club, you'll find generous lot sizes in this subdivision, and house sizes are equally generous. Although you may not find an apartment rental here, there are many houses to choose from. Having your own space and your own yard can be a nice perk, right? You'll find some great two-bedroom house rental options here.
Carl Junction Living
You've got your new digs right next to the golf course. What are you going to do now? Hopefully you've got your car, because with a score of 17 from WalkScore.com, you won't be traveling too far in Carl Junction on foot -- or at least you won't be traveling to many destinations. You could go to the golf course, the park, or the pool (actually, come to think of it, maybe you don't need a car). Check out the Bluegrass Festival in September and meet your neighbors while you enjoy live music, picnic, cruise the wares of local crafters, take in the local car show, and embrace your new community.
