Home to the annual Miss Missouri pageant, Mexico is a city you don't want to miss- and you do not even have to go south of the border to get there!
Not to be confused with any other Mexico City, nor the country, Mexico, MO is a great city that is quickly growing. If you're looking for a city with a lot of history, many fun activities to participate in, and famous events such as the Miss Missouri Pageant, well than Mexico is your place. The city has over 11,500 citizens and for a while was known as New Mexico city. The new was dropped from the title after the Mexican-American war. Mexico is currently the county seat, and has been since 1837. It was first chartered as a city in 1874, and used to be the major source for the nation's fire-brick production.
Moving to Mexico
The first thing you will want to do before moving to Mexico is assure everyone that you know that you are going to Missouri, not to New Mexico or to the country of Mexico. If you need to forward your mail you will want to make sure that this is noted properly as well. It may sound trivial, but this can turn into a problem later on if it is not taken care of properly. The last thing you want is for all of your mail to get sent to Mexico City while you are back in Missouri!
The job market has been slowly recovering in Mexico, Missouri and there are several strong industry fields for employment within the city. Retail, health care and medical, education, marketing, business management and administration, drivers, sales, metal workers, electrical, and technology are the major fields available for job growth. Mexico also has a strong work-from-home population and there is a decent opportunity to find work you can do from home.

Neighborhoods of Mexico
Mexico may be a small town but it does have a lot to offer! Here's a little more info about the various neighborhoods.
Farber: Farber is one of the largest neighborhoods in Mexico. There are two schools in this neighborhood. Depending on where you live, your children would go to one school or the other. If you are curious as to which school they would attend just ask some of the neighbors, there are a lot of families in Farber and you should be able to find out quickly.
Vandiver: Vandiver is a relatively small community in Mexico. The rent in Vandiver is currently 90% lower than the rent in the rest of Missouri. This is an excellent choice if you are looking to rent. The majority of the population in Vandiver is made up of medium sized families.
Living in Mexico
Mexico is a quickly growing city, despite this fact it is still small enough to have a distinct small-town sort of feel. Everything is close together in Mexico which means that you won't have to commute too much, many people find that they can walk to do their groceries and most of the daily activities. Within the city there is one medium and one small airport as well as an air ambulance helicopter port. There are several colleges and universities within driving distance of the city and there are 2 high schools, 2 private schools, and 4 elementary/middle schools in Mexico.
Some of the great locations and amenities in Mexico, Missouri include the Mexico-Audrain County Library District, South Trails Shopping Center, Lakeview Park, Plunkett Park, Hillside Mini Golf, and several restaurants. Mexico is also well known for have many different lakes, some of the best being Teal Lake, Burlington Lake, and Blackmore Lake. There are at least five banks in the city and 5 hotel/motel accommodations, one post office outlet, one YMCA gym, and several shopping center and store outlet centers.
This is a great place for families and for people to start their families, the only downside is explaining to people over and over again that you are in Mexico, Missouri, and not in the other country.
