Elon is a 4.5 square miles town located in Alamance County at the Piedmont area of Central North Carolina. Home of Elon University, this town is also home to the amazing environment friendly public transportation the "Biobus" that run on alternative fuel and are unique to this town. It was said that "Elon" was the Hebrew name for oak; hence, Elon College. Formerly, the town was known as the "Elon College" until the college changed its name to "Elon University," thus the town officially changed its name to "Elon" in 2001.
A town rich in history with a small town atmosphere adds to its charm. But don't be deceived, despite of its small town charm it is also a progressive community with a Downtown area that provides daily services to its residents and can also offer recreational activities with its park. Elon has a relatively smaller area which naturally makes the town safer than other cities.

The Neighborhood
The town is largely dominated by the Elon University just adjacent to Elon. Shopping and dining areas are found in a three story, 24,000 square foot, Elon Town Center managed by the Elon University which also makes up the Downtown Elon. A lot of dining options are available to try in Downtown Elon like Pandora's Pies and Fiesta that are popular with the residents for its good food and good value. The residents may opt for some Italian in Sandy's Italian Grill, or be adventurous with Thai cuisine in Simply Thai. Domino's Pizza and Subway are also available to satisfy your fast food cravings.
Living in Elon
Parks and recreation facilities are available such as the Beth Schmidt Park where people can take a walk, run or bike around. It has a picnic pavilion and picnic shelter for get together and outdoor activities. The park also boasts of its Heritage Place Community Center complete with a gazebo perfect for events such as weddings and anniversaries. In year 2006 the town opened the K-9 Corner, first dog park in Alamance County, an enclosed one-acre dog park that offers an off-leash leisure and active play complete with water stations, benches and picnic tables. To visit K-9 corner the dog must be registered in the community center with a proof of up-to-date vaccination. Disc golf and a 9-hole amateur golf course is also offered in the town that serves as a great practice area for players. Shuttles and trams are available to go around the town. Since 2007, Elon is served by bio buses that also run along the shuttle and tram routes. Then again, walking is also convenient for some areas in the community.
