If you want to live in the kind of place where some of the most prized residents are horses, you'll want to giddy up and get going to the little North Carolina village of Marvin. This master-planned community wanted to make sure the quality of life was high -- and what says quality of life more than a peaceful horseback ride?
It takes a village...Marvin is a pretty one, located in Union County, NC. With a population of 5,579 as of the 2010 census, this community is just 30 minutes from Charlotte. A commuter town to Charlotte, it also has plenty of community spirit within its borders. And speaking of borders, Marvin is located on the border of South and North Carolina.

When to Look
You can look for a home year 'round in Marvin, with a mild climate even in winter, you won't need to bring your snow boots. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time to find a place -- this is a tight rental market in a popular place.

Neighborhoods in Marvin
You'll need a car moving to Marvin, as public transportation is slight. But commutes are only 15-30 minutes each way in this pretty, creek lined community. I-485 and I 77 provide easy access throughout the region.
Newtown Rd / Twelve Mile Creek Rd: This is a suburban neighborhood by density that's made up mostly of large to medium sized single family homes and mobile homes. Most properties are fairly new, built between 2000 and the present, although some date to between 1970 and 1999. The vacancy rate here is only 3.2%, so don't wait til the last minute to look for a rental.
Marvin Village Center: Also suburban by density, the village center consists of townhomes and single family homes primarily. You'll find properties run the gamut in terms of age from between 1970 and the present.
Life in Marvin
Do you like horses? The community of Marvin does. If you would love to ride along a wooded trail, or have a pasture available for your pony, then Marvin will for sure corral your attention.
If riding's not your thing, check out the picnic spots and playing fields of the practically brand new -- opened in 2012 -- Marvin-Efird Park. There are community gardens located here if you have a green thumb. Or perhaps you'd like to put on an old fashioned barn dance. You can -- there's a barn structure here that's rentable to community members.
Plans are in the works for the construction of the Marvin Loop walking trail, and the Chimney Trail for both walkers and horse riders.
If a drive into Charlotte isn't what you're in the mood for, you can find shopping and dining options closer at hand. Check out Trattoria Antica for upscale Italian dining just a few miles away. Or what about Ming Fu sushi or Chinese food? No matter what cuisine you're in the mood for, you'll find it nearby.
Also just a few miles away in adjacent Waxhaw, you'll find plenty of interesting shopping options such as Stewart's Village Gallery, Furniture Factory Outlet World, or the Waxhaw Antique Mart. You can easily furnish your new abode from these shops. Waxhaw is a great place to listen to music come Friday night too -- every Friday, the historic downtown area hosts "Music by the Tracks."
So how's the weather? It's mild all year here, with summers being a bit on the humid side. But that's easily offset by winters where you won't see a sign of snow.
