Beachwood, New Jersey, is known as the pearl on the river, a "piece of summer paradise available with a 6-month subscription to the New York Tribune!"
Of course, this was the offer back in November of 1914 -- when the Beachwood founder Mr. Bertram Chapman Mayo, in conjunction with the New York Tribune, tried to encourage the purchase of lots with the gimmick. Though the ploy worked back then, these days you would hardly need any trickery to convince folks to move here -- or residents to stay, for that matter. A beautiful historic water town with a little over 11,000 residents, Beachwood is a popular New Jersey borough known for its local charm and tight-knit community. Sitting one mile southeast of Toms River, inside the Monmouth-Ocean metropolitan area, the town is a hidden gem on the eastern seaboard.
As with many east coast towns and cities at the mercy of weather patterns brought upon by the Atlantic, Beachwood can have a drastic variance in climate and conditions throughout the year. Of course, depending on weather conditions, moving activities may prove challenging. One is advised to plan moving and relocation activities accordingly. Autumn and spring are the best times to move and get settled into Beachwood, as temperatures are mild and pleasant--though the occasional surprise thunderstorm has been known to hit from time to time. Winters are cold with temperatures dipping below zero degrees Fahrenheit and snowstorms that can drop over a foot of snow on the area. This is obviously not an ideal situation for moving activities, or even looking around town for a place to live, for that matter. Summers months are hot and humid, and can also make moving and unloading a challenge--especially in the presence of the all-too-common summer thunderstorm.
One can find single-family houses for rent in Beachwood. Many of these houses feature resort-like qualities (especially homes near or on the riverfront), as Beachwood was formerly an east coast summer colony. Quite a few new constructions exist alongside classic ranch and bungalow-style homes, suitable for new and incoming residents. Apartments and condos for rent are a little less common, but can be found in greater numbers up the road, in the larger township of Toms River.
Beachwood is a quaint community and no distinct neighborhoods exist within the borough. The Garden State Parkway is the main freeway artery connecting Beachwood to the rest of the area, including the larger township of Toms River. Atlantic City Boulevard crosses the northern tip of Beachwood, with the borough's northernmost end meeting Toms River. Berkeley Avenue forms the eastern border of Beachwood, Pinewald Road/Surf Avenue mark the western end, and Bayside/Compass Avenue mark the northern end of the borough, near the shoreline. Houses for rent in Beachwood can be found within the confines of these borders, though in terms of apartment rentals--one would have better luck in nearby Toms River, as such options are sparse in Beachwood.

Of course, being 15 minutes from the Jersey shore means the beaches are also within easy reach.
As its name implies, Beachwood is all about aquatic life the beach -- and indeed, the beach is the most popular place for local residents to relax and socialize. A typical weekend here might consist of a day or two at the shore, having a picnic and a dip in the water with family and friends. Many events and activities are held by the Beachwood Yacht Club year-round, such as an annual Super Bowl party, yard sale, and golf outing. Of particular interest to younger residents is their renowned youth sailing program, which offers yachting and sailing instruction to children. The Beachwood Community Center is also a popular place for residents to hold social events -- either at their waterfront facility or the community docks. Other outdoor activities and facilities include many fine golf courses in the vicinity, as well as tennis courts and a softball field also in close distance.
Immersing oneself in the region's historical legacy is a popular local pastime. The many nearby museums capture and illustrate the fascinating local history of Beachwood and surrounding areas. The Toms River Seaport Society Museum features a collection of over 30 boats from the Barnegat Bay area, as well as other artifacts related to the rich maritime heritage of region.
