City Guide for Rockaway, NJ

Thomas McCarthy's The Station Agent (2003) was filmed at a number of distinct locales in Rocakway, NJ.

Nestled within Morris County is the Borough of Rockaway, with a friendly downtown and quaint neighborhoods within its 2.1 square miles. The Borough of Rockaway is comprised of a spirited closely-knit population of approximately 6,500 residents and is a stone's throw away from the major highways, including Routes 80 and 46. In its olden and golden days when its mining heritage was in full swing, it was still referred to as Rockaway Village, a portion of Rockaway Township. Before it officially became established as a separate Borough in 1894, residents used the Morris Canal for travel and commerce. Today, there are plenty of roadway arteries and mass transit, such as the Lakeland Bus Lines, to still help transport residents to neighborhoods nearby and places outside of the borough, including Manhattan. What to keep in mind when looking for apartments with garages in Rockaway, NJ

Rockaway apartments with garages are sometimes more expensive than other options. However, they may make more financial sense in the long run.

Weather, break-ins, and daily struggles to find a space can take a toll financially and physically. Remember that even cities in mild climates experience issues like salt air, tornadoes, hail, falling branches from storms, and other issues.

It’s also possible to score an auto insurance reduction if you park in a garage. Ask your insurance provider about any deals or discounts that could trim money off the cost of your monthly bill.

Before signing a lease, ask the landlord or property manager about any restrictions on garage use. It’s important to know if there are enough spaces for tenants and visitors and what happens if the garage is full. If you’re moving into an apartment inside a home, ask about any conditions on its use and if storage is allowed.
