Nestled within Morris County is the Borough of Rockaway, with a friendly downtown and quaint neighborhoods within its 2.1 square miles. The Borough of Rockaway is comprised of a spirited closely-knit population of approximately 6,500 residents and is a stone's throw away from the major highways, including Routes 80 and 46. In its olden and golden days when its mining heritage was in full swing, it was still referred to as Rockaway Village, a portion of Rockaway Township. Before it officially became established as a separate Borough in 1894, residents used the Morris Canal for travel and commerce. Today, there are plenty of roadway arteries and mass transit, such as the Lakeland Bus Lines, to still help transport residents to neighborhoods nearby and places outside of the borough, including Manhattan.
