Glens Falls North, NY, was originally called Chepontuc which in the language of the Iroquois means "hard place to get around." Well, with I-97 and U.S. Highway 9 cutting right through town, it's a little easier these days!
Surrounded on the north, east and west by Queensbury and to the south by the main town of Glens Falls, about 8,500 people call Glens Falls North home. It grew out of the larger town and established its own identity. While it's correct to say it's surrounded by other towns, that might give the wrong impression, since most of what's around it is forest and green space. It's a Census Designated Place that most see as part of Queensbury or greater Glens Falls. Situated along the southwest edge of the Adirondacks and just a short drive from Lake George, it's almost an understatement to say that living here gets you close to nature.
Moving to Glens Falls North
The housing here is mostly along the same natural corridors that Aviation Road and Highway 9 follow, coursing through the surrounding forests in snake-like fashion. Premier Apartments can be picked up near to the transportation routes so commuting isn't that big of a deal. Glen Falls to the south is a bigger town and has all the shopping and entertainment venues of a small city with a strong cultural heritage. It sets on the Hudson River and is around a river bend from Hudson Falls.
Neighborhoods
There are three distinct neighborhoods of Glens Falls North, each with their own advantages and shortcomings. Make sure to research thoroughly in advance before settling on a place in this small New York thoroughfare.
West Aviation Road: Primarily single family homes laid out in grid fashion in a fairly flat part of town, the residences have been here long enough that the landscaping is established and the trees are growing tall and plentiful. A great place to find home rentals in Glens Falls North.
Highway 9 Corridor: Retail establishments and commercial buildings line the highway while offset behind the businesses are potential places for rent that include a large apartment complex that would be a good place to search for 3 bedroom apartments.
Round Pond: Just a few hundred feet south of the much larger Glen Lake, Round Pond is an area with pricier houses near both lakes or fronting the greens at the Glen Falls Country Club.
Living in Glens Falls North
The first thing you might notice is all the trees. Homes are built back into the forest in many cases, with larger lots and a bunch of trees. Being convenient to Glens Falls and not that far from Albany means it's not a big journey to go to a city, but your home is far enough removed that it's almost like a small town. All the outdoor recreation opportunities of Upstate New York are close by the summers are nice and the fall colors magnificent.
