North Valley Stream is a small New York community located between the town of Elmont to the north and the community of Valley Stream to the south. Rivers, lakes and streams -- Valley Stream, of course -- are nearby, and so is the Southern State Parkway, which means it's an easy drive to Long Island, New York. North Valley Stream is one of the smallest towns in New York at only 1.9 square miles of land. And yet, tiny though it is, Valley Stream State Park offers the ultimate in green space within its borders. Over 16,000 people live in this peaceful community per the 2010 U.S. census. Considering the small size in area, it makes a fairly dense community.

The West Hempstead train is also only a short distance away, however, so you can leave your car parked safely at home and take public transportation into the Big Apple or Long Island.
Living in North Valley Stream
North Valley Stream is a gem for those who want to live close to New York City but who like a quieter lifestyle. Look, if you want to hear the subway trains rattle your windows at 2 a.m., this isn't the spot for you, but if you want to live where there's fantastic parkland for walking, biking and picnics, a state park recreation area at your doorstep and easy access to the city, then settle into the "stream of things." While there are some charming shops and dining options in this community, New York City and all the exciting nightlife is just 19 miles away. North Valley Stream is also quite close to Hempstead Lake State Park just to the southeast of town. This lovely state park features a large body of water called Hempstead Lake. You can swim here or fish with a State of New York fishing and hunting permit.
