While there are some charming shops and dining options in this community, New York City and all the exciting nightlife is just 19 miles away. North Valley Stream is also quite close to Hempstead Lake State Park just to the southeast of town. This lovely state park features a large body of water called Hempstead Lake. You can swim here or fish with a State of New York fishing and hunting permit.
