Roslyn Heights is neither a city, town or village, but rather an unincorporated "hamlet" that's designated as a census-designated place (CDP) by the United States (US) Census Bureau. As of its 2010 census, pocket-sized Roslyn Heights proudly boasted a residency of 6,577 inhabitants. It comes by its identity by hitching a ride on the coattails of a bordering exclusive chunk of upscale real estate, known as the "Greater Roslyn area," of which the main constituent is the incorporated village of Roslyn. To describe Roslyn Heights, is in reality a narrative about the more popularly known village of Roslyn.
Roslyn, NY is located on the North Shore section of Long Island and it was previously known as "Hempstead Harbor" until its current name emerged in 1844

Roslyn, NY is located on the North Shore section of Long Island and it was previously known as "Hempstead Harbor" until its current name emerged in 1844. Of particular note in this deeply rooted historical and cultural section of storied Long Island, which dates back to the 17th century, are today's iconic, thriving landmarks of Roslyn Park (where locals and tourists come from miles around to visit), the Bryant Library (overlooking the idyllic Roslyn Park setting) and the Roslyn Village Clock Tower.
Getting a Move On
Fortunately, showing up in a higher-end New York City (NYC) suburb like Roslyn Heights is not one of the more complicated endeavors around. In fact, a relocation move to the area is not really too daunting a task as myriad capabilities exist where you can either drop in by air or partake in the many advantages offered by surface transport. Take the pick of the (airport) litter if getting there fast is your objective. Few other US locations offer the convenience of four nearby airports to pick from: JFK, La Guardia, Long Island MacArthur or Newark.
Road access is a snap as well. Roslyn Heights is located along the eastern sector of the Town of North Hempstead at exit 37 of the Long Island Expressway (I-495) -- the major highway artery serving most of Long Island (with roadway termination in Manhattan). The Northern State Parkway also beats a path through Roslyn Heights on its meandering way to and from the Big Apple. Such a convenient location will also be a favorite for your moving van driver if you elect to commercially pre-ship your goodies to coincide with your arrival although remember to tell him that the latter mentioned roadway is restricted to automobile traffic only.
Owing to its confined real estate size, rental apartments in Roslyn Heights are limited and pricey. Any apt for rent in this and close by neighborhoods is going to take some bucks to swing the deal. Save wear and tear and gasoline by surfing online for apartments for rent before suddenly arriving there and putting a dent in your wallet with a forced, prolonged hotel stay. If you have a family in tow, you'll also find townhouses for rent and homes for rent in the seven aforementioned Greater Roslyn area neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Happenings
With a one and a half square mile patch of territory, Roslyn Heights understandably leans on its larger surrounding neighboring towns for its "personality." The neighboring partners that comprise the Greater Roslyn area are: Searingtown, Roslyn Estates, Greenvale, Roslyn Harbor, East Hills and Flower Hill. You'll need a car to them to get to know and better appreciate the many shopping and entertainment attractions you're sure to find spread out between them.
Living in Roslyn
The retail shopping top dogs among the area are the centerpiece Roosevelt Field Mall, as well as the American at Manhasset, which features more than 60 high-end, luxury retail emporiums. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate Gerry Park in Roslyn, a beautiful 16-acre green space in the middle of town that offers sleigh rides in the winter and outdoor concerts during the summer.
