Welcome to Fremont! Your new Ohio city has presidential roots and a great small town vibe. Now let’s take a look at some apartments for rent and find you the home of your dreams.
Fremont is located in Sandusky County in northern Ohio, about 35 miles southeast of Toledo and 85 miles west of Cleveland.
The city is probably best known for being the birthplace of Rutherford Birchard Hayes, the 19th president of the United States. The city is now home to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, which is a small compound of buildings dedicated to the life of that famous former neighbor.
With a population of a little less than 17,000, Fremont is definitely a small town with a tight-knit community. However, this “Cutlery Capitol of World,” so-called for its large number of silverware manufacturers, also has its fair share of attractions.
You’ll find some great shopping, dining and entertainment in the cute and well-maintained historic downtown area, right along the riverfront. You’ll also find some convenience at the large box stores, chain restaurants and shopping centers here. If all else fails, you can take a short drive out to Toledo.
While Fremont’s rental market, like the city itself, may not be “bustling,” the cost of living is low, and you can find a decent amount of cheap rentals throughout town. Additionally, Fremont is fairly safe for a town of its size, so you don’t have to worry too much about ending up in a sketchy area.
You’ll find a few apartment rentals in the downtown area. Many of these will be above storefronts or in charming homes that have been sectioned off into duplexes. While the city center may not have the best safety reputation, it’s nothing that keeps area residents up late at night. Two bedrooms here range from $450 to $600.
Across the Sandusky River just east of downtown, you’ll find a few apartment rentals in some no frills complexes that offer everything from studio apartments to two bedrooms. This area is generally considered by area residents to be safer and more desirable than the downtown. Two bedrooms here are similarly priced to city center apartments.
There are a number of great rental homes available throughout most neighborhoods of town. South of downtown, the area known as “Lower Fremont” is a great place to find rentals on quiet, family-friendly blocks. Two bedrooms here range from $500 to $700.
If you’re moving to Fremont with a four-legged friend, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a pet-friendly apartment that suits your needs. While some area rentals may have restrictions on the size or number of pets, the rental market here is generally both cat and dog-friendly. Always make sure you call the establishment and to find out their policies before moving in, though. You’d probably want to avoid any troublesome situations.
So welcome to Fremont! Enjoy all that this presidential city has to offer!
