The name Twin Cities probably makes you think of Midwestern cities Minneapolis and Saint Paul, both of which are in Minnesota. However, Uhrichsville and the neighboring city of Dennison are also called the Twin Cities because of their proximity to one another and because they are quite similar, but they are not in Minnesota; they're in Ohio. Uhrichsville started as Waterford, but the name changed to "Uhrich's Mill" after a mill owned by founder Michael Uhrich.
A population of 5,413 and two constituent neighborhoods make Uhrich the 252nd largest community in the state. History buffs appreciate the collection of pre-World War II architecture in the area, which makes Uhrich one of the more historic and older cities in Ohio. If splashing around with friends is more your style, you can just as easily head to the Uhrichsville Water Park, which opened in June 2008. Not only is this park heated, it offers water slides, waterfalls and a water jungle gym.
Moving to Uhrichsville
If you are looking for an urban space close to large shopping centers and stores, you won't find it in Uhrichsville. Instead, natural attractions and various tourist attractions command most of your free time. When the urge to spend some quality time outdoors hits, head to the Tappan Lake Park, where you can enjoy camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, running and picnicking. Spend a night at the Trainmaster Inn, a tastefully restored Queen Anne style Victorian home, or head to the nearby Dennison Railroad Depot Museum with visiting friends or relatives.
Housing Options
The city may only have 2.81 square miles of space to live in, all of which is land, but there are still plenty of living options. Whether you are in the market for one-bedroom apartments for rent or condo rentals, you can probably find what you are searching for. If you prefer a historic place to rent or own, you'll have the best luck of finding it in the center of the city, where many homes were built no later than 1939. Those that were feature a construction date between 1940 and 1969.
Older Homes
If you like older homes, you will be thrilled to know that there is a selection in the center of the city. Just as these units are often charming and full of character, however, it is a good idea to have them inspected before you start to fork over your hard-earned cash. That's because despite quality construction, older homes often need more maintenance and upkeep, and you want to make sure that you don't spend more money than you bargained for.
Apartment Hunting
There are many places for rent in Uhrichsville. For example, you can find a studio or a one-bedroom apartment along with small- to medium-sized family homes. There are some furnished apartments, and perhaps some that also offer paid utilities in some locations, while others are more sparse. When you are looking for rental housing in Uhrichsville, you need to make at least one month's security deposit. You also must provide proof that you have successfully rented properties before, and you may need to undergo a background and credit check.
Uhrichsville Neighborhoods
With just two constituent neighborhoods, you may feel as though your living options are limited. However, the amount of outdoor space and recreational activities in Uhrichsville allows to you escape for some much-needed rest and relaxation.
City Center: The heart of Uhrichsville is characterized by a small-town feel. Here you will find attractions, museums and restaurants.
Newport/Riverside Park: You may need a car to get to work (or just about anywhere else) but residents can enjoy the local trails and park spaces.
Living in Uhrichsville
When it comes to outdoor activities, you can spend a day on the greens at Big Bend Golf Course or just relax at McCluskey Park. And, of course, don't forget the water park! After you've tired yourself out and are reading for a meal, Uhrichsville has got you covered with all its restaurants. Poppy's Cafe, Chef Ernie's Restaurant, Jerry's Great American Restaurant and Lucky Wok are among your many options available.
You might not find a ton of entertainment right in Uhrichsville, but a short car ride brings you to more densely populated areas. Canton, Ohio, is 28 miles away, and Akron, Ohio, is a 48-mile drive. Railroad shops that were constructed in neighboring Dennison made Uhrichsville more prosperous, and railroad history remains an integral part of the community to this day.
