Strawberries and tomatoes had a little to do with it too. Eat up! The dam brought hydroelectric power and Grand Lake. All of these pieces helped build the region. When you come here, you must know you are living on historical ground. Anyway, Grove is a pretty desirable spot today. You'll see folks flocking to fish, boat, and soak up the scenery every day. The outdoor recreation -- from laid-back golf to intense water skiing -- is first class. Located in Delaware County, this city is also within striking range of Tulsa. Grove is the kind of place that never gets dull. Even when you go for a nap, the rolling hills soothe you to sleep. So turn up the Woody Guthrie music, it's time to live free and happy in Grove.
So you want to relax by the lake and read "The Grapes of Wrath." Hold on one second! Grove isn't your typical real estate market. Additionally, a good school system makes the area more desirable. The market in Grove differs from other small cities. And it's certainly not like nearby Tulsa. So read the following information before you crack open that John Steinbeck novel. Folks Come and Go
About a third of the city's properties are occupied by renters The location near Grand Lake means that people come for a short time, then leave, and then come back. That means lots of available property rentals during certain times, and not so many during other times. You'll find the most options in Grove from February through April and September through November. During this time, allot 10 to 25 days to complete a lease agreement. Still, you can still always find something, regardless of when you search. It's advised to allot three weeks during the summer.
Insurance Is Reassuring
Tornadoes do occur occasionally in the Grove area. Most of the time, these don't cause more than a power outage. However, it's best to have renters insurance, especially if you rent in a mobile home park or older home. Regardless of where you rent, it's recommended to be prepared for whatever may come.
Bills Never Go Away
During your search for a house or apartment rental, you are probably going to discover that you have to write a separate check for the utilities. Places that include all the bills in the rent are not common here. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Utilities are affordable relative to the state and national average. That's good to know. Real estate by the water is pricier. This is simply because the lake is a big draw for a lot of newcomers, and many want to be as close to that body of water as possible. You can too. Just understand that you are going to pay a bit more in comparison to the inland portions of the city.
Grab the Keys and Cruise
Typical things, like one or two months' rent, proof of sufficient funds, and the deposit, are required to complete the lease. Other things, like some references and a credit score, will help make you look like a A-list tenant.
At 9.1 square miles, Grove has some space. While a pad by the lake provides views, a home in the center of town provides a vibrant social atmosphere. Other things to consider include how close you want to be to shops, eateries, and great nature. By determining what you want from your neighborhood, selecting a section to reside in Grove won't be too difficult.
Neighborhoods
City Center: Right where US Route 59 and State Route 10 intersect, this area is where you'll find the most things to do (outside of water activities!). Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store, Annie's Garden Gate, and CheeZies Pizza are a few notable establishments in this somewhat walkable neighborhood.
Honey Creek: In the south part of town and near the water, this 'hood showcases Honey Creek State Park, views of Neosho River, and Lendonwood Gardens. If you enjoy cabin living, this is a great spot. There are several resorts in this area as well. A car is advised if living here.
Carey Bay: This is where you'll find the most variety of housing. Eat at Catfish John's. Shop for a boat at Grove Marine. And take off into the water from Wolf Creek Park and Boat Ramp. This is the least walkable area in Grove.
Top Apartment Communities
Savannah Park of Grove: Spacious one and two bedroom apartments for rent and affordable prices are what's nice about this property near the center of town. You won't get tons of amenities, but you get a cozy environment.
GardenWalk of Grove II: Located on Mill Creek Drive, the GardenWalk property has one to four bedroom apartments. The complex features a community center, pads with all necessary appliances, and a laundry center.
Grove Village Apartments: You can rent one, two, or four bedroom apartments here. The location, near Carey Bay and all that water, is spectacular. Homes have a patio or balcony. If you are on a search for apartments, you can't go wrong with this property.
The center of the city is where you'll have the easiest time getting around on foot or bike. However, the town is too spread out to get by without a vehicle. Grove is a driving city. A vehicle is also useful if you plan to travel to Tulsa or other nearby cities and towns.
Life in Grove centers around the lake. With so much to do there, it should. First, though, you must get a history lesson at the Har-ber Village; this charming village depicts what life was like here in the 19th century. Just don't get stuck in that time frame. You have to enjoy today. And today includes enjoying a view of the lake aboard The Cherokee Queen -- a true Grove riverboat. The fishing, of course, is tremendous. Go try to hook some bass and channel catfish. Boating, water skiing, and parasailing are other common ways to take on Grand Lake. You can also swim in the water. You should get the picture now. Living in Grove means you absolutely have to have fun on the Grand Lake O' The Cherokees.
When you have had your fill on the water, fill up your stomach at eateries like Trail House BBQ, Drake's Restaurant, and La Casita De Martin. Stores like Magnolias T-Shirt and Souvenir Shop, Cheapo Depo, and Pink Parrot Fashion ensure you get quaint shops in addition to major retailers. And drinking holes like Jake's Sports Bar and the Iron Frog guarantee you can have fun after you say goodbye to the sun. You can try to win a fortune at the Grand Lake Casino after the bar closes. If want to enjoy a sweet garden, stroll through the Lendonwood Gardens, an absolutely stunning set of botanical gardens. You see. The lake is a big deal, but it's not everything.
Annual events, like the Pelican Festival (in honor of the actual pelicans), give a jolt of energy to an already happening environment. Grove is a city on the rise, and people are starting to take notice. By moving here, you are riding on a horse moving towards a winning destination. Come to Grove and don't look back!
