Paxtonia, PA, isn't exactly what you'd call a town. Instead, it's a census designated place (CDP) located in Lower Paxton Township. The neighborhood itself is located in Dauphin County and is also included in the Harrisburg-Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. With a population of 5,254 residents according to the 2010 U.S. Census, Paxtonia and the other surrounding CDPs serve as a bedroom community of sorts for nearby Harrisburg and Hershey.
Moving to Paxtonia
While the vast majority of homes in Paxtonia are owned, it's not impossible to find an apartment to rent in the area. It simply takes a bit more patience and effort to find one. On the upside, it's easy to find homes for rent that offer a bit more breathing room than most apartments afford. If you plan to commute into Harrisburg or Hershey, chances are you'll find slightly lower apartment rents in Paxtonia.
If your stay in Paxtonia isn't that long or if you're not up for the expense and hassle of moving or acquiring new furniture, you're probably better off looking for furnished apartments in the area. Such apartments may be a bit more costly, but the convenience is often worth it, plus the leases are likely to be a bit more flexible. You may also come across a few duplexes for rent, so it pays to be open to change when looking for a new place to live.
Like many other CDPs in Paxton Township, Paxtonia uses a Harrisburg mailing address. Now there's something that's definitely important to remember as you fill out those "change of address" forms. For all of your postal needs, there's a post office conveniently located along Jonestown Road near the center of the neighborhood.
