Shippensburg is home to the Beistle Company, which is the largest manufacturing company of party goods and decorations. More recently, it became home to the Construction Equipment division of Volvo, which invested $100 million in plant facilities. Locals, though, know it for both the college in town (Shippensburg State University), as well as the Community Fair held there since 1958.
Shippensburg is named after the college founded here in 1871. It's anchored by the State Capital of Harrisburg, which is 41 miles southwest. The town, which has around 5,586 residents, is located slightly north of I-81 and is split in half by State Route 11. Much of the town's housing was built prior to World War Two. However, finding the right rental apartment in Shippensburg should not prove difficult at all. View Shippensburg City Guide
Balconies are a coveted amenity for many renters looking for high-rise views and opportunities for fresh air. However, you should keep in mind that balconies often come with restrictions.
Before signing a lease, ask about how many people can be on the balcony at once. Also, ask about whether you’re allowed to store a bike or other items.
You’ll also want to know about any maintenance schedules. Using your balcony as storage could result in fines and intervention from your property management.
Keep in mind that not all balconies are created equally. You may discover the views of the parking area are less than optimal or reduce your overall privacy.
Balconies can also get messy with debris, foliage, dirt, and pollen depending on your location. Renters are typically responsible for any clean-up and basic balcony upkeep.
Regardless of the issues to keep in mind, balconies are usually a big win for Shippensburg renters. Ask about apartments on higher floors for the best views.
