The 668-foot long pier at Garden City was voted "_Best Fishing Pier"_ on the Grand Strand on four separate occasions. The last time was in 2008, and before that in 2007, 2006 and 2004. Because it is a licensed public fishing pier, anglers don't need a saltwater license to fish from it. There's a tackle and rod rental store right on the pier, and you can fish 24 hours a day.

Moving to Garden City
Garden City, especially the beach shoreline, is a popular area for people buying a second home, as well as those who are so impressed with what they find that they want to invest in a main residence. It is mainly because of the popularity of Garden City and its neighboring areas with visitors of all ages that the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has created a free comprehensive relocation guide to help all those interested. Contact them if you think you could use their help.
The cost of property in Garden City is surprisingly affordable, considering the prime location of the area. The cost of living is a bit lower than the average for the U.S. as a whole.
It might be a good plan to find a rental apartment or condo here first before taking the plunge and buying, to be certain that this really is the place for you. As you would expect with a popular tourist location, rental houses abound here. You can expect property companies to run an employment history, proof of income and credit check on you when you decide to rent. The higher your credit score, the more bargaining power you will have.
Garden City Neighborhoods
At just 5.5 square miles, this is a small city that doesn't cover a lot of ground, but where you live can make an enormous difference. In the north and west parts of the city, there are extensive woodlands with golf courses, such as the Indian Bay Golf Club and the Tupelo bay Golf Club, while the southeastern part of the city is all about beach front and golden sands. The city center and most commercial part is focused around the WalmartSupercenter complex, just north of Highway 17.
Garden CityCenter: The city center area straddles 17. It is dominated by the Wal-MartSupercenter, but housing of all types can be found on both sides of 17, interspersed by restaurants, bars, stores and pizza places.
Salters Cove: This neighborhood is south and east of 17, and only minutes away from the beach to the south, or the main amenities in the city center to the west. It features a mix of patio and raised homes, townhouses and condos.
Woodlake Village: This community is located within one and a half miles of the beach, just northeast of the city center with all its amenities and conveniences. This is a quieter, more relaxed neighborhood.
Garden CityBeach: This neighborhood is dominated by the beach and shoreline, of course, but also by Garden City Pier. This magnificent structure stretches out into the ocean for almost 700 feet, and is enjoyed by people of all ages year round.
As this is such a prime location, houses are always in great demand and their prices reflect that too. You can find condo, beach houses and apartments here. There are plenty of rental properties available, too.
Living in Garden City
Garden City is an exciting mixture of peace and quiet, fun and excitement. The north-eastern part of the city has golf courses, woodland areas and quieter communities. But even there you are just a couple of miles at most from the hustle and bustle of the beach and the famous Garden City pier.
Two of the major attractions of living in Garden City have to be its low property taxes, coupled with the low cost of living there. When you add in family-friendly Southern hospitality and the world-famous South Carolina combination of sun, sea and sand, you get a glorious mix that is hard to beat.
What could be better than relaxing at the end of day with a drink in the Bar at the End of the Pier, which really is its name, or starting the day off with a quiet round of golf in any one of several of the courses here? In Garden City you can do either--or both.
