If you're searching for a country setting, then Brownwood is the perfect place for all your rough-and-tumble cowboy pass times. The annual rodeo is always a good show. Pecan Bayou is teeming with crappie, bass, cats, and gars. Nearby Brownwood Lake is great for fishing, boating, skiing, and wakeboarding. And, camping is always a hoot.

While apartment life can get pretty wild around here, there are lots of family-oriented neighborhoods where worrisome parents can find quiet rental homes and rustic old houses converted into apartments (usually, far more tame than your typical complex). And, families will also be happy to know that Brownwood has plenty of activities for the kids, from cow-rustling and pig-raising 4H programs to youth sports and summer camps.

Those moving to town with pets will need to do a little extra research. Not many apartment communities allow pets, and if your pet is dog, well then you really have your work cut out for you. However, if can't bear to leave behind your squirrel-chasing buddy, then check out local classifieds and keep an eye out for FOR RENT signs to find those local dog friendly landlords.
