Speaking of little, La Homa isn't the most populous place with 11,985 residents. However, with McAllen close by, you can enjoy all the comforts of city living without actually living in the city. Located in Hidalgo County, McAllen rests on the southern tip of Texas on the Rio Grande. Additionally, La Homa may not be bursting with business, but if you prefer to enjoy those wide-open spaces, this is the town for you. Plus, with South Padre only a little more than an hour away, you can't go wrong.
Moving to Lahoma
It is hot in Texas, that's a given, so be sure to avoid moving in the summer months if you don't want to sweat like a pig. Winter months will be milder and conducive to a more pleasant and comfortable move. But before you can even think about moving in, make sure you bring all the right paperwork with you when you're looking around for a new home. Double check to make sure you have copies of your ID, letters of reference, proof of income, rental history, and a recent credit report.
La Homa Neighborhoods
Here's the thing: If you want neighborhood and living options, you may run into a little trouble. However, it's pretty cheap to live here. The median prices of homes are much lower than the state and national average, and the median house value has grown by 53.12 percent since 2000.
Mission Neighborhood: With the size of La Homa, it's no wonder you don't have more than one distinct neighborhood, which is the Mission neighborhood. As far as homes for rent in La Homa, you can choose from older homes, homes with acreage or newer-model homes. You won't find many month-to-month rental houses, studio apartments for rent, apartments for rent or anything for rent for that matter. That's not to say they don't exist; they're just not always available. You'll find Blanco's Grocery in this area, if you need a quick snack during your housing hunt.
Life in La Homa
If you're looking for a nice, quiet lifestyle not too far from the city or beach, La Homa's for you. You won't find public transportation or deal with traffic, but you may want to invest in a Texas-size truck rather than a BMW to get you around so you can fully immerse yourself in local culture. You can drive a little more than an hour to South Padre if you want water, and if you want transportation and more contemporary options, you can take a short trip to McAllen. But if you want a place with wide-open spaces and a Texas style of living, La Homa's the place to call home-a.
