The city motto is "A great place, no matter how you pronounce it," is based on the fact that so many people mispronounce the name - it's actually pronounced May-Hay-uh! It's a humid, subtropical climate so living here means that summers are hot and humid while winters are fairly mild. The city sits on the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and State Highways 14 and 171. It's just about 40 miles east of Waco and about 90 minutes south of Dallas/Fort Worth. There are heaps of attractions in and around Mexia that draw in tourists and residents alike. History nerds take note: The Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historical Park is just 8.5 miles southwest and the Old Fort Parker State Historic Site is located about 8 miles south. Lake Mexia is a popular place for residents and visitors to go hiking, camping and boating. Fort Parker State Park is located just a few miles outside of town as well.

Life in Mexia is pretty great. It's set in the midst of empty desert-land but because two main roads cross right through it, it is actually a pocket-sized residential paradise! It's a slow pace of life and the town is filled with hard-working and friendly people. There's no shortage of pretty, outdoor spots to hang out and enjoy the beautiful greenery and desert. Near the intersection of highways 84 and 14, you'll find some fast-food and chain restaurants as well as Taqueria Mexicano Grill and Wright's Bar-B-Q. If you're moving to this area you'll find that Tex-Mex cuisine and Barbecue are two of the dietary staples around here. The area south of 84 between Sherman Street and Red River Street is chock full of great stores, everything from grocery stores to florists. You'll find plenty of hair salons, doctor's offices and clothing boutiques around here, too. If you find yourself in need of a little more action or excitement, you can always head over to Waco to find some restaurants, shops and bars that are catered more toward city slickers.
