Apartment List has released San Antonio’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"San Antonio renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories above average scores."

Affordable options with breathing room attract renters to Highland Hills in south San Antonio. Homes typically offer more square footage and yard space than similarly priced properties in northern neighborhoods. Located near Brooks City Base and Texas A&M-San Antonio, the area appeals to military families, students, and first-time renters on tight budgets, though shopping options remain somewhat limited compared to more developed districts.
Rural charm persists in Alamo Farmsteads, where properties on larger lots maintain working gardens and fruit trees just minutes from downtown San Antonio. Residents enjoy the neighborhood's mature pecan groves and backyard chicken-keeping traditions, while Woodlawn Lake Park provides waterfront recreation. Though some streets lack sidewalks reflecting the area's former rural status, the trade-off comes in larger yards and established landscaping. The neighborhood's central location offers quick access to the Medical Center and downtown attractions, while several corner markets feature locally-grown produce reflecting the area's agricultural heritage.
Medical professionals flock to Stone Oak for its luxury apartments within minutes of the growing hospital district. The neighborhood's hilltop location provides cooler temperatures and better breezes than downtown, with many units featuring Hill Country views from private balconies. Though rental rates exceed city averages, the trade-off includes resort-style amenities like infinity pools and outdoor kitchens actually worth using during San Antonio's extended summer.
