Inglewood-Finn Hill was founded in 1888 by a settler named L.A. Wold. Located in King County, Washington, the town of Inglewood-Finn Hill was officially annexed by the city of Kirkland in 2011. Being a part of Kirkland, one of Washington’s most exciting and thriving metro areas, allows residents of the Inglewood-Finn Hill area to take advantage of some of Kirkland’s attractions, including a waterfront park, great beaches and art galleries. In terms of employment, proximity to nearby branches of IBM, Microsoft and Google can’t be beat. It also allows for a relatively easy commute to the biggest nearby city of Seattle while enjoying the peace and quiet of a suburban lifestyle.
If you’re looking for a studio or a one-bedroom in Inglewood-Finn Hill, those are cheaper than the national median. However, most of the real estate in the neighborhood consists of 2-4 bedrooms, which are a bit on the pricier side due to the relative affluence of the neighborhood in general. If you’re going without roommates of any kind, there are some great deals for studios or one-bedrooms – it just may take a little extra digging and pounding the pavement to find the perfect place.
Kirkland: The center of Kirkland itself, with its exciting cultural attractions and proximity to the water, is one of the pricier neighborhoods. Juanita Bay Park in particular, with its incredible scenery and its wildlife preserve, is a great draw. $$$
Norway Hill: A neighborhood in the northeastern part of the area, Norway Hill (also called Waynita) is a little more affordable. It is closest to the town of Bothell, which boasts great farmer’s markets and wineries. $$
The city of Kirkland, which is the sixth largest city in the county and the twelfth largest in the state of Washington, has some great attractions, including public art spaces, parks and the exciting new waterfront. The Kirkland Performance Art Center boasts a great lineup and is a big draw to residents and tourists alike. In 2009, the city passed an Active Transportation Plan, focused specifically on enhancing and improving alternative modes of transportation, such as bike paths, pedestrian routes and even equestrian services. While a car is still the primary mode of transportation for commuting and getting around the various suburbs around Seattle, for those without cars, Kirkland is focused on making a non-motorized lifestyle more palatable.
If sports is what you’re after, the Seahawks have departed the area and no longer play in Kirkland, but the city is famous for hosting two Little League Championships every year. In fact, the 1982 Kirkland Little League team was the subject of an ESPN documentary entitled Little Big Men. In general, whether it’s the water, the parks or traveling a little further away to the nearby Olympic Mountain Range, the outdoors is a huge draw for residents of the Inglewood-Finn Hill area, so if you’re an outdoors person, this is probably a great area for you.
