Even the name Ashwaubenon exemplifies the village's self awareness of their cultural origins. Named for a brave young Native American that pulled off a daring rescue of a kidnapped maiden, the town dedicated a 86-acre park in honor of its namesake.
An ideal location for those who love the big city lights but aren't fond of the big city lifestyle

An ideal location for those who love the big city lights but aren't fond of the big city lifestyle. Located just south of Green Bay on the Fox River, Ashwaubenon covers just a little over 12 square miles of area with around 16,000 inhabitants. Like the Mayberry of the north, this is the kind of place where neighbors know each other's names and the parks including the expansive Memorial River Park stay active. A 10-minute drive up Ashland Ave. will land in you Vince Lombardi's backyard.
Moving to Ashwaubenon
Due to its size, finding rentals in the city can be a little on the difficult side. It's a good idea to start a few months early in case you have to wait for an opening. There are a number of private homes. Be prepared to deal with an individual, which can be a boon if you bring your negotiating skills. You'll be pleased to know that you need nothing short of the usual to apply to rent or own a home here: proof of income, identification and references. There should be very few complications moving to this suburb. It gets cold in Wisconsin...real cold. If you're not accustomed to sub-zero temperatures and white winters, move in the summer or fall and give yourself time to acclimate. In general April through late August are probably the ideal move in dates.
Neighborhoods
There are four easily defined regions in Ashwaubenon that correspond to the two major roads intersecting near city center, with Hwy 41 going north to Green Bay and 171 running east/west from the airport to Fox River. Most of the commerce and day-to-day living in the area happens to the south and the east while the vast majority of residential neighborhoods are located in the northeastern corner of the city.
Northeast: Within a few miles of Bay Park Square -- the largest shopping center in the area -- northeast neighborhoods are an ideal mix of comfort and utility. For outdoors enthusiasts there are at least half a dozen city parks within a short walk's distance from anywhere in the area. This is a great place to begin your search for 1 bedroom apartments for rent and pet friendly apartments.
Northwest: The northwest corner of Ashwaubenon is by far the main residential center of the city. Rivaled only by the farthest south reaches, this is a well developed and very suburban neighborhood. This area is within mere blocks of Lambeau Field. Expect shady lanes in the summer and snowmen in the winter. Plenty of rental homes in this neighborhood.
Southeast: The city may be small by relative standards, especially in comparison to metros such as Green Bay and Milwaukee, but there is no lack of commercial industry here. What the northeast is to shopping and entertainment, the southeast is to production plants and warehouses. There are thriving neighborhoods on the perimeter heading towards nearby suburbs; however, the truly desirable homes can be found along the riverbanks slightly to the northeast. That is not to say there may not still be a few places to rent.
Southwest: This area is a near identical twin to its northern counterpart. Half-acre lots with modern houses all arranged in neat rows line both sides of nearly every street. The southeast does enjoy one particular perk, and since it is located to the east of Austin Straubel International Airport it does enjoy a slightly lower noise level by being outside of traditional flight paths.
