City Guide for Delafield, WI

Early settlers paid homage to their agrarian lifestyle by naming the town Hayopolis. In 1843, the community's moniker was changed to honor a Dr. Delafield from Milwaukee.

Delafield, Wisconsin, is a prosperous community in the "Lake Country" of western Waukesha County. Much of Delafield hugs the southern and western shores of Lake Nagawicka. In fact, of the 11.06 square miles within the city limits, about 15 percent of that area is part of the lake. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, 7,085 individuals called Delafield home. Downtown Milwaukee is a straight shot to the east, 40 miles away. Head west on I-94, and you'll be in Madison in a little over an hour. Given its strategic location on an east-west interstate, commuting to the more urbanized areas near Milwaukee is easy. What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Delafield, WI

Finding an apartment in Delafield that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
