Did you know that the first Costco ever in the state of Wisconsin was opened in Grafton?
Grafton is a community in central Ozaukee County, directly to the north of Milwaukee on Interstate 43. The eastern terminus of Highway 60 is found at the intersection with the interstate here. Just to the east of Grafton is Lake Michigan, popular for its sailing and charter salmon fishing. Grafton's population in the 2010 US Census was established at 11,459 individuals, an increase of 5.02 percent since the previous census in 2000. Although numerous residents both live and work in the area, many others commute to jobs in Milwaukee County.
When looking for an apartment rental in Grafton, one will find some studio apartments and some one- bedroom apartment homes, but two- and three- bedroom apartments are a bit more common. Some Grafton apartments are offered with heat included. An occasional house rental is also offered.
Moving Costs
Given the fact that Grafton is in the Midwest, and that it is located outside of an urban area, moving costs are typically quite modest here. Interstate 43 and the network of freeways around the greater Milwaukee area makes traveling here quite simple.
What to Bring?
Rental applications are typically pretty straightforward here. Bring along your credit report, proof of income, rental history, and references. A modest application fee may be charged in some cases.
Grafton is a small enough city that there are no distinct separate neighborhoods to speak of. But who says this is a bad thing? Less to be confused about when getting lost, and now you can really get to know your neighbors!
The area near the point where Highway 60 meets the interstate has become home to numerous big-name stores that make life a little more convenient, like Target, Kohl's, and Shopko.
The Milwaukee River runs from the north to the south through Grafton. Anglers pursue bluegills, bass, and even a few northerns in the river. Canoeing and kayaking are popular pastimes as well.
Four Seasons
The many tree-lined streets are most inviting to residents and visitors alike. In the spring, bright yellow forsythia and flowering crab trees bid winter adieu. In the fall, golden maples and crimson oaks thoroughly color the community. Cross-country ski trails and snowmobile trails beckon residents out into the cold, crisp, winter air.
Festivals Galore
Festivals and other events fill Grafton's calendar. There's the "Holidaze" 4th of July Celebration, Grillin' in Grafton, and PumpkinFest. The Grafton Christmas Parade is more widely acclaimed than most. Santa seems to make a point of attending every single year.
A Ghost Town Restaurant?
Juice's Ghost Town Restaurant may have an unusual name, but it's a popular destination nearby for prime rib. "Juice" is the nickname of the owner. The restaurant has tamed down since Prohibition, when moonshine and gambling filled many a night for adventurous patrons. The restaurant is one of only a few structures remaining in the former waterfront boom town of Ulao. Fittingly, the Grafton Antique Mall occupies one of them.
Ulao's 1,000-foot pier once allowed off-loading of timber onto wood-burning steamers. Each one needed about 10-acres worth to make it to Buffalo and other points east. When coal supplanted wood as the fuel of choice, Ulao's demise was imminent.
Championship Golf
True championship golf is only a few minutes away at Fire Ridge Golf Club, a public course with private country club amenities. Fire Ridge was nominated by Golf Digest as a "Best New Public Course" in 1995. You can play as long as 7,084 yards across rolling, wooded terrain.
