City Guide for Oconomowoc, WI

Oconomowoc, named for the Potawatomi word for waterfall.

Only in Wisconsin would a town of 13,000 be called a city, but that's how they classify Oconomowoc. It's basically a Mayberry in the Midwest, with a really hard to say name. People come here for the peaceful, quiet, rural life, or to raise their families. In terms of man-made stuff there's not much to do besides schools, a library, some shopping and a few restaurants, but if you like to take advantage of the splendor of the outdoors, it's a great place to settle down and explore the beauty of Wisconsin Lakes and Forests. Also, it's just a hop skip and a jump away from both Madison and Lake Michigan -- so there's always something to do nearby if you get too bored. View Oconomowoc City Guide

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Oconomowoc, WI

Finding an apartment in Oconomowoc that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
