"Brewton Alabama at the Colonial Inn/ Hot day, old orange juice, some vodka on a night stand/ There's a Chevy Nova with the seat burned out the back/ From a Winston cigarette that was thumped into the window." - "Love Song for Bobby Long" by Grayson Capps
Brewton, Alabama, is close to the Florida Panhandle, and it's an hour's drive to the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Brewton has been incorporated for over 125 years, but it lets cities like Mobile and Montgomery worry about growing. With 5,408 residents, it has one museum, four parks, two swimming pools, one country club and some other great amenities. This quaint town is famous for holding the annual Alabama Blueberry Festival at the Burnt Corn Creek Park. You can find Brewton about 25 miles east of I-65 in south central Alabama, but don't drive too fast! It's only 11.5 square miles big.

Moving to Brewton
Affordable Living‰Û_For Real!
You know how people say a place is affordable and then you find out their idea of affordable is different from yours? Well, Brewton is affordable -- really. The median rental rate is lower than the equivalent rates for Alabama and the nation. Over a third of the residents rent, so you'll have plenty of company.
Don't Make an Easy Job Hard
Olin Miller once said, "If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it." Like most things in life, there's a catch to moving to Brewton. A small city with residents who like renting equates to a low vacancy rate, which doesn't leave much wiggle room. You need to search for apartments in advance, if you want to avoid making moving harder than it has to be. If you like drama, then procrastinate. But this is a situation where procrastination might lead to living where you don't really want to live.
Living in the Real World
If you have decent credit and find an apartment that feels like home, it's time to fill out an application. The days of free credit checks and application reviews are long gone, so you may have to pay an application fee. You'll also need to pay a security deposit and pet fee, if you rent a pet-friendly apartment. The pet deposit gives the landlord a little peace of mind that you will at least try to stop your furry best friend from tearing up the place!
Brewton Neighborhoods
Brewton residents must like space because the residential areas are pretty spread out. They must also like apartment living because there are plenty of complexes around town, most grouped within a couple of areas.
City Center: The City Center is where the main roads converge. There are several apartment complexes close to the downtown area. You can find everything from a one-bedroom apartment for rent to a cozy studio for rent.
North Brewton: If living close to the Sears Hometown Store sounds like a dream come true, then search for apartments in Brewton located on or around north Douglas Avenue. You'll also be close to the Dogwood Hills Golf Course.
Southeast Brewton: Take Mildred Street off South Boulevard, and you'll end up in East Brewton. This is a residential area with few businesses but a good place to look for rental houses. Follow Florida Street instead of Forest Avenue, heading south towards the Brewton Municipal Airport, and there is a cluster of nice complexes with two-bedroom apartments for rent. South of the city, you'll find many apartment complexes.
Southwest Brewton: More apartments are available south of the city and west of South Boulevard. In fact, there's another cluster of apartment buildings in this area that are only a few blocks from one another.
Living in Brewton
There's a good chance you'll find residents visiting with each other over pork ribs at George's Old Time Bar-B-Que, Hog Heaven BBQ or Big Stevie's BBQ. Do you detect a theme? There are some other places to grab grub that are just as down home, like Old Cozy Cafe, Brenda Faye's Buffet and Orleans Po Boy. There is no public transportation in Brewton, so you'll need to bring your vehicle. However, some residents just put on walking shoes, if they don't live too far from Douglas Avenue.
When not dripping BBQ sauce down their chins, residents frequently visit the Conecuh National Forest, only 38 miles away. It has 84,000 acres of forest, hiking and bicycling trails, picnic grounds, fishing opportunities and a lot more! If that doesn't sound enticing, you can always take a day trip to a Gulf Coast beach. There's plenty to do in Brewton!
