If you've ever suffered lost luggage at the airport, perhaps a visit to Scottsboro's Unclaimed Baggage Center is in order. You may not find your old Bermuda shorts, but you can at least enjoy looking through others' lost treasures!
Scottsboro is the county seat of Jackson County, Alabama. After the 2010 U.S. Census, Scottsboro held a population of 14,770 residents. The city is in ideal proximity to larger cities like Huntsville, Alabama and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
History
The area that would become the city was inhabited by the Cherokee Indians prior to English settlement. Scottsboro is named for Robert Thomas Scott, a hotel owner and legislator who moved to the area in the early 1850s. During this time, the area's Tennessee River was a popular hub for shipping goods and supplies to other cities.
The city has grown and diversified since the 1850s, and many of the locals commute to nearby Huntsville and Chattanooga.
Another Man's Treasure
The Unclaimed Baggage Center sells the contents of unclaimed luggage whose owners were never located. People travel from all over to sort through the lost articles of previous business trips and vacations. If you love vintage treasure hunting, this definitely beats a trip to the mall.
