The largest unincorporated town in Merced County, Delhi is home to over 10,000 individuals. Delhi is a center for agriculture and commercial and retail businesses in the area and is considered the fastest growing community in the county. Adjoining Highway 99 north of the Merced River, Delhi is 20 miles from Merced and only three miles from Turlock. State Land Settlements at Delhi began in 1919. Six miles south of Turlock, the land settlement program was started by the state of California to encourage and improve land development. Delhi began with an original 230 settlers who owned the land they worked. Agricultural settlers shared land, supplies and work. The settlers were selected by the State Land Settlement Board and were carefully questioned to determine their fit for the cooperative program. The goal was to improve settlers' living conditions.

Ballico: This neighborhood has a rural feel and is located on the side of town closest to the larger community of Turlock. If you are commuting to Turlock for work, this is a great spot for you. You'll find single-family homes and mobile homes here, all occupied by a solid mix of renters and owners. Properties vary in age, having been built between 1940 and 1999 on average.

S. Golden State Boulevard / Golden State Boulevard: Bordering the Merced River, this rural community contains single-family homes, mobile homes and small apartments occupied by both owners and renters. Properties are newer here and built between 1970 and the present.

Delhi Town Center: This area is considered urban by density and has a mix of single-family homes, apartment complexes and residences built between 1970 and the present. You'll find restaurants, cafes and businesses located here.

Living in Delhi

Scenic spots abound just outside of town, including McConnell State Park and the flowing Merced River. The McConnell State Recreation Area is located on the banks of the Merced River, where fishing for catfish and perch is a popular pastime, along with hiking and boating. George Hatfield State Park is a tree-lined enclave that's excellent for bird watching and swimming, as well as fishing in another part of the Merced.

Lake McClure is located about ninety minutes from Delhi. This popular swimming and camping site was created because of the New Exchequer Dam on the Merced River. Closer, at just thirty minutes away, is the Don Pedro Reservoir Lake, which offers swimming, camping and a spectacular annual fireworks show on the Fourth of July.
