With an expansive landscape and mountainous backdrop, it's easy to arrive in Lucerne and feel that California dream blowing across the desert, down from the mountains. Whether you want to hike through canyons or mountains, Lucerne has it all. Lucerne began as a way station for travelers where they could stop for fresh spring water. Slowly, as the 19th century turned to the 20th, more and more settlers began wondering why they were moving on from such a beautiful place and began staking their claim on the area. As a valley surrounded by wondrous mountains, folks were drawn to the arresting scenery of the area, and that feeling continues to this day. Most of the living stems off Old Woman Springs Road, also known as highway 247/18, an east/west thoroughfare that leads to Apple Valley to the west and Yucca Valley to the southeast. Rather, the whole city itself could be seen as a neighborhood, in the best possible way: friendly, welcoming, with folks helping each other out however they can.

Although Lucerne Valley rests on the desert floor, with the Mojave spreading for miles around, just a short drive down highway 18 will take you into the outdoor wonderland of Big Bear. Can you say skiing and snowboarding? Johnson Valley, just to the east of Lucerne Valley provides a non-stop source of outdoor fun, with numerous dry lakes and rugged mountains. Lucerne Dry Lake and Rabbit Springs Dry Lake provide numerous fun activities as well, with the famed pop singer Selena Gomez recently filming a music video there! Meanwhile, right in the heart of the city, Pioneer Park provides a venue for most civic gatherings, as well as a Lucerne Valley Museum with self-guided tours, for all you history buffs out there. Lucerne Valley is perfect for renting, with its proximity to Los Angeles, Big Bear recreational area, and the wondrous beauty of the Mojave Desert.
