The owner George W. Bauer rebuilt the Malt House after it was damaged in the 1906 earthquake using concrete and steel girders. His company Bauer & Schweitzer, continued to supply malt to Bay Area breweries, including the Anchor Brewing Company, into the 1970s. Following its' closure in 1981 the building was used for on site filming of several movies and TV showing including Don Johnson's Nash Bridges. The site was developed and sold as condominiums in 2001. Many of the units boast quintessential San Francisco views, from the Transamerica Pyramid to the Golden Gate Bridge. Echoes of the past are everywhere. Canvas murals hand painted by French artist William du Pont (circa 1930) - depicting the beer-making process from field to brewery - that once hung inside the house's tasting room now grace the walls of two of the lobbies.
