Cedartown is located in Polk County, Georgia. Cedartown, first inhabited by Creek Native Americans and the Cherokee, was known as Cedar Valley in the 1830s. In fact, the Cherokees were the ones to name the area "Valley of the Cedars." One of the most famous settlers, Asa T. Prior, was father of Cedartown. Being such a small town, Cedartown is pretty much one big neighborhood. For the sake of explanation, Cedartown will be broken up and explained geographically.

City Center: The center of Cedartown contains what pretty much any normal town center would have: numerous fast-food and fine-dining restaurants, several convenience and discount stores (such as Dollar Tree), and numerous other businesses. Also located in this area, on the corner of Philpot and East Avenue, are the City Hall, Police Department, and Fire Department.

North: Primarily a residential area, this is an area free of the hustle that occurs at the center of town. A fairly laid-back area, the north side of town is home to several parks, as well as Springdale Lake. Main Street and John Hand Road are the two major roads that will take you throughout the area and they both eventually intersect.

South: Also served by Main Street, this is a residential area that does not have as many peaceful parks as the north side of town. The Ten Yard Branch stream runs through this area, slightly north of Main and Clyde Drive. Also, the Philpott Spring is in the Southeast area of town. This area is also home to a senior center, a health center, and the South Side Cemetery. For those who are looking to relax with some class, the Cedar Valley Country Club is located at the southern end of Cedartown. Ooh la la!

East: Rockmart Highway and Collard Valley Road cover most of the east side of Cedartown. On the far east side of town lies Northview Cemetery and the Polk County Sheriff's office. Rockmart Highway is home to several businesses, and the majority of the east side of town is residences.

West: Again, this area is also full of residences. The Ten Yard Branch runs North to South through the western end of Cedartown. Prior Station Road serves the majority of the western side of Cedartown.

Cedartown's most well-known attraction, the Silver Comet Trail, is located within the town limits and stretches beyond Atlanta! It's free and travels through Cobb, Paulding, and Polk counties, ending right near Cedartown. It's a quiet trip and can be taken on foot, on a bike and even on horseback. It's even wheelchair accessible. This trail is a great way to see what the area has to offer when it comes to scenery and environment. It's just over 60 miles (yes, 60 miles) long, starting at the Mavell Road Trailhead in Smyrna and ends at the Georgia/Alabama state line (right next to town). It's something that residents encourage for newcomers and is a beautiful way to end a visit or to begin a new life in Cedartown.

For those who have an appreciation for art, the Cedartown Mural is located in the Redmond Chair Caning Building.

If you are interested in history, the Confederate Memorial stands just outside the courthouse. Erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1906, this memorial has stood as a lasting tribute for the Confederate veterans for over a century. Another historical site, although it doesn't address U.S. History, is the Historic Museum at the Cedartown Depot, home of the memoirs of Sterling Holloway. For those who remember what Winnie the Pooh's voice sounded like, Holloway provided his voice.
