It is one of the area's few planned communities and was originally known as Wood Hill and then as Park Forest South before the village finally settled on University Park. University Park has two distinct neighborhoods with different features. Here's a little more information about each of them.

Village Center: This area runs along I-57 on the west side of town. It's where you'll find a lot of shops and restaurants, like Max's Red Hots and Marilyn's Family Restaurant, as well as small subdivisions with mostly single family homes.

Governors State/University Parkway: This is a small neighborhood on the east side of town that's close to the Deer Creek Golf Course. There are more small apartment buildings on this side of town.

Living in University Park

University Park was founded as a planned community and the developers had quality of life in mind while they designed the village. It has a championship golf course where you can fit a healthy round of golf into your day. There's also a 30-acre lake that makes a great place for relaxing in the sunshine or swimming or fishing. If you don't like lake swimming, you can head to the community pool. There is a wide range of housing options and plenty of beautiful hiking and jogging trails to give you a way to explore the community. Plus, it's only 30 miles south of Chicago! The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park is a favorite of residents and there are great restaurants like Cliff & Tommy's and Sicilian Joe's Pizzeria scattered throughout town!
