Fallston is a community in Harford County, Maryland with a population of 8,958. It's a pretty rural area, and you'll find a lot of farms and small suburban developments here. It takes up 14 square miles on the map, which means that residents are pretty spread out over a good amount of space. The whole community is residential housing with a few farms and one strip of Belair Road (or Route 1 as you might see on the street signs) that runs through the southeast side of town that has a concentration of businesses. It's also fairly close to Baltimore, so if you need a little more action, you can just hop in the car and drive a little over an hour to enjoy all that the big city has to offer.
If you're thinking about moving to Fallston, you better sit down for a minute. Less than 5% of the properties here are rental units and they're pretty much all owner-occupied. That doesn't mean that with a little luck and a lot of patience you can't find a great apt for rent, though! It's still important to think about exactly what you want from an apartment. If you like living right in the center of things, you'll want to look for one-bedroom apartments in a bigger complex or a home in a busy subdivision. If you prefer to be further out with more space to yourself, you'll want to investigate those options. Things like bringing a pet or looking for an all bills paid apartment will limit your options, which is important to keep in mind. If you do find a place here, make sure to ask your landlord about all this stuff upfront. Do you want to live in a luxury apartment with a doorman and other such amenities or are you trying to cut costs by living in a more simple place? Narrow down your search as much as you can so you can find the place you want more quickly! It's also a good idea to look at places in a few different neighborhoods so you can get a feel for what the town is like.
In order to move here, you're going to want to have a lot of time. Let's face it, it's a tough market out there and you don't want to end up homeless. Consider renting a place in a nearby town so you can be available to find apartments as they come up over a few months. When you head out to your appointments, be sure to have all your rental documents prepared before you go. These are all the things you'll need in order to sign a lease on your new place. Bring a copy of your ID, your bank statements, pay stubs, letter of employment, references and anything else that will help your landlord see that you are indeed a real person with the capacity to pay your rent every month.

Life here is pretty great, which is probably why most people choose to commit to buying a place here instead of renting. Sure, homes here tend to be pretty expensive, but there are tons of perks to living in this section of Maryland. The community is warm and welcoming and the subdivisions are beautiful, with centuries-old trees lining the streets and the feeling of a serene, bucolic small town.
In addition to some of the smaller boutiques peppered throughout town, a giant Walmart was recently built along with other stores and fast food restaurants, that made quite a change to the commercial section just east of Route 1. On the west side of town there's a Basta Pasta and Fallston Seafood Restaurant along with Josef's restaurant, which has been an area staple since 1985. If you're craving seafood, head down to Crab Truck, which is a local favorite for crabs and lobster in the area. On the other side of Route 1, just outside of Fallston, are a bunch of shopping areas, including a Target and Sears, just across from the beautiful Winters Run Golf Course.
